One on One Instruction for Psychotherapists*

1) Using Meditation in Psychotherapy

We will learn and practice various meditations including awareness practices, calming practices, and compassion practices. We will discuss their application to psychotherapy in a way that is clinically useful and relevant to the psychotherapeutic process.

2) Dreams

“A dream that is not understood remains a mere occurrence; understood it becomes a living experience.” Carl Jung

Dream analysis deepens psychotherapy by providing information that has not been available to the conscious mind. I’ve worked with dreams that provide information about the psychotherapeutic process including the transference and countertransference; dreams that point to deeper aspects of the client’s organizing themes and attachment patterns; dreams that herald new growth that is on the horizon; dreams with profound spiritual messages. By working with dreams, I have found that clients are moved by the psyche’s mysterious capacity to tailor a message just for them. When we learn to read the language of dreams, we find that they are a beautiful, symbolic expression of the state of the psyche as it is when the dream is happening. As Carl Jung said, “The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul.”

Instruction is geared toward helping you to learn how to decipher the language of the dream in order to find its meaning. This is done by asking the dreamer to elaborate on the dream and being able to feel into its tone, imagery, and symbols.
