Psychotherapy in New York

You look at your life and you feel reflective. You have created a life that you hoped would bring you happiness. You’ve followed the rules and done your best. You’ve reached many milestones. And yet, beneath all of that, you sense that there is something more quietly calling you.

You’ve put in a great deal of care and intention. You’ve spent time trying to understand yourself and grow. You’ve listened, read, reflected, and looked inward. Still, something feels just beyond reach, and you’re not ready to turn away from it. You long for a deep feeling of self-worth—an inner sense that you are enough, that you belong. You may understand this in your mind, but you want to feel it deeply and consistently. You’re weary of being hard on yourself. You’re ready to be more open. You want honest, nourishing connections with yourself and with others—connections grounded in care and warmth.

Imagine speaking your mind when you're with your friends and loved ones.

Imagine feeling safe to be you - as you are.

Imagine feeling that you are walking your authentic path.

My name is Debra Flics and I get what it’s like to have worked hard and still feel that there is something more.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I’ve worked with clients in psychotherapy who feel exactly like this. On the outside they may look like they have it all together. Yet on the inside they feel held back. They know that they can be more of who they truly are and live more fully but after all they’ve tried, they are just not sure how to get there. They really want to be understood.

The good news is, I really get it. When we meet, we start with where you are at right now. We discuss where you want to be and how you want to feel in your life. And then we start doing the work that will allow for this to happen.

A bit about my training–I went to the New York University School of Social Work for my MSW.  I followed that with a four-year intensive course in Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. I’ve done advanced training in EMDR therapy. I’ve also trained in Embodiment-Based Contemplative Psychotherapy through the Nalanda Institute.

My style in therapy is interactive. I’m here to guide you so that you can develop and live from your deepest YOU, the part of you that speaks to you from inside, that knows your dreams and visions, and guides you in a loving and kind way.

Clients who work with me often come in seeking clarity and a sense of possibility. They may feel held back by painful aspects of the past, but they are also ready to reconnect with themselves, discover their own worth, and build more meaningful, caring connections in their lives. Through our work together, they gain clarity and begin to move forward, realizing that the pain of the past does not define them. They are so much more than they had thought, and they discover that what they are truly looking for is already within their own hearts. We make space so this depth can be fully heard and honored.
