Psychotherapy in New York
You look at your life and you feel perplexed. You have created a life that you thought would bring you happiness. You’ve followed the rules and worked hard. You’ve achieved many goals. But still, you sometimes feel lost. And on top of that, you’re not sure why you feel this way.
You’ve really tried hard. After all, you are a hard worker! You may have gone to yoga classes, therapy, tried meditating, and read self-help books. But something is still missing and you are not willing to give up. In your work life you’ve seen that hard work pays off, but you’re wondering what’s missing in your personal life that you’ve not been able to achieve that feeling inside- that feeling that says that you are worthy and that you are good. You may know this intellectually, but you want to feel it in your bones. You’re tired of being self-critical, of being hard on yourself. You’re tired of hiding. You want to have more honest and fulfilling connections with yourself and others, connections that are based on love and care.
Imagine waking feeling energized to face the day.
Imagine speaking your mind when you're with your friends and loved ones.
Imagine feeling safe to be you - as you are.
My name is Debra Flics and I get what it’s like to have worked hard but feel lost and empty inside.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I’ve worked with clients in psychotherapy who feel exactly like this. On the outside they may look like they have it all together. Yet on the inside they feel stuck. They know that they can be more of who they truly are and live more fully but after all they’ve tried, they are just not sure how to get there. They really want to be understood.
The good news is, I really get it. When we meet, we start with where you are at right now. We discuss where you want to be and how you want to feel in your life. And then we start doing the work that will allow for this to happen.
A bit about my training–I went to the New York University School of Social Work for my MSW. I followed that with a four-year intensive course in Contemporary Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. I’ve done advanced training in EMDR therapy. I’ve also trained in Embodiment-Based Contemplative Psychotherapy through the Nalanda Institute.
My style in therapy is interactive. I’m here to guide you so that you can develop and live from your deepest YOU, the part of you that speaks to you from inside, that knows your dreams and visions, and guides you in a loving and kind way.
Clients who work with me may come in feeling lost and confused. But with our work together they can gain clarity, and find that the pain of the past is not who they are. They are so much more than they had thought. They find that what they are looking for is deep within their own hearts. We make space so this depth can be heard.
